SMS Messaging Policy

IlmQuest provides school administration software to Islamic schools and institutes. Each school uses IlmQuest to send text message notifications to the parents and guardians enrolled at that school. This page describes how consent is collected, what messages are sent, and how a recipient stops them.
Who sends the messages
Messages are sent by a school to the parents and guardians of its own enrolled students. Every message identifies the school by name in its first words, so a recipient always knows which school is writing. Messages are never sent to anyone who is not a parent or guardian of an enrolled student, and a school can only message its own families.
How consent is collected
Consent is collected by the school, not by IlmQuest, and it is recorded with the date and the method used. There are two ways it happens:
- At enrollment. A parent or guardian provides their mobile number to the school and agrees to receive text notifications about their child, as part of the school's enrollment or registration process. A school administrator then records that number in IlmQuest. The consent, its date, and its source are stored against the parent's record.
- In the parent portal. A parent can turn text messages on or off themselves at any time, per message type, from the Notifications section of their account settings. Turning them on records a fresh consent.
Text messages are off by default. A school must enable messaging, and a parent must have a recorded consent, before anything is sent.

What messages contain
Messages deliberately carry no private information. They do not include grades, message contents, account numbers, or identifiers. They say that something is waiting and direct the parent to sign in, where the information is protected by their password. A typical message reads:

Frequency varies by school and by what happens with a family's own children. In typical use a parent receives a small number of messages per month. Grade notifications are combined into at most one message per student per day, and each school is subject to a daily sending limit.
Cost
Message and data rates may apply. IlmQuest and the school do not charge for these messages.
How to stop messages
Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them. The opt-out is processed automatically and immediately. Reply HELP for help. A parent can also turn text messages off at any time in the Notifications section of their account settings, or ask their school to remove their number.
Privacy
Phone numbers are used only to send the notifications described here. They are not sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing, and they are not shared between schools. Numbers are passed to our messaging provider solely to deliver these messages. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
